LACH aims to be a cultural custodian, preserving the history, work, stories and culture of Black and Indigenous communities through Kitsap County. Below are some projects that embody the process and impact of that work.

Bremerton Library’s New Name
In January, LACH’s founder and director joined City and Library officials at Kitsap Regional Library in Bremerton to officially change the name to Bremerton - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Living Life Leadership
We hosted a 3 day retreat with Living Life Leadership at Evergreen Tacoma, introducing youth to their values, self esteem, leadership development and social and cultural training.
2021 Luminary Awards
In 2021, LACH’s founder and director was awarded a Luminary award, highlighting individuals who used the arts and humanities to shine a light for their communities during the pandemic.
Evergreen State College Tacoma Reunion
LACH helped put together a homecoming event at Evergreen State College’s Tacoma Campus, celebrating three generations of Black Women Leaders.
Evergreen State College Black History Exhibit
We helped Evergreen State College—Tacoma develop a comprehensive exhibit of African America art, stories, history and insight set in the Tacoma-Hilltop community.
Black History Preservation, Evergreen Tacoma
We were part of an Evergreen State College-Tacoma campus program to engage the community with tips on how to archive their own analog pictures and videos in a digital format.
Racial Restrictive Covenants Project
We have partnered with University of Washington and Logan Camporeale on the Seattle Civil Rights and Labor History Project which works to identify and map racial restrictions buried in local property records.
2024 Outstanding Achievement Award
We were chosen by the City of Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission to receive an award that honors our community efforts to preserve places and stories that matter to Tacoma.

The Bainbridge Island Art Museum’s (BIMA) 2024 Martin Luther King day celebration
A Black film festival hosted at BIMA, in conjunction with the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute in Seattle
The Catalyzing Change presentation at BIMA with our Executive Director and Suquamish elders Mary Gubatayao and Barbara Lawrence talking about activism and taking action
Working with Derek Kilmer and NAACP 1134 in 2022 to help rename the Bremerton post office in 2022 to John Henry Turpin Post Office honoring a distinguished Navy veteran and black pioneer in Kitsap county
The naming of the new Justice Spearman center on Bainbridge island, chosen for the first Black justice in Kitsap county
